  • F-Prime Capital

    Associate, Tech Team, F-Prime Capital

    F-Prime Capital

We are excited to share that we are adding an associate to the F-Prime Capital tech team. We love what we do and we’re excited to add another talented, interesting and inspiring person to the team. If you love technology, want to work with amazing entrepreneurs and think you can be a great investor; then read more, apply below and we look forward to meeting you.

Want to know more about F-Prime Capital? F-Prime Capital has its roots in one of America’s great entrepreneurial success stories – Fidelity Investments. For almost fifty years, we have had the privilege of backing great entrepreneurs building iconic companies in technology and healthcare, including Atari, MCI, Nuance, Alibaba and Ultragenyx. Today, F-Prime and our international sister fund, Eight Road Ventures, have become one of the largest global VC firms in the world with several billion dollars under management, 300+ portfolio companies and over 100 investment professionals across our global platform.

We’re proud of our 50-year history, but hey, a lot has happened in just the last few years! We were thrilled to see Quovo acquired by Plaid to become the leader in connecting innovators with financial institutions and Kensho become one of the largest VC-backed Fintech acquisitions (S&P Global $550M).  We’re also excited to have helped several of our early investments grow into category leaders like Flywire in international payments and Toast in restaurant software and POS. And we continue to back new companies that we believe will re-define their markets like Unison (residential housing co-investments), Benchling (bioinformatics SaaS) and Threat Stack (secure cloud infrastructure).

And while we think all that is awesome, it’s hard not to be impressed with our Healthcare team that has enjoyed over a dozen IPOs and acquisitions in just the past few years.  Innovent, Orchard, Denali Therapeutics, Mersana, Surface, …oh, the list is long.

What is the role? Associates on the tech team have a tremendous amount of freedom and responsibility on our team. We expect a lot, but in return you will have wide autonomy as an active participant across the full range of investment activities. We will ensure you have mentorship and the best of a VC apprenticeship while getting areas to own and lead early in your role. You will be a full part of the investment decision-making process and quickly learn your insights and judgment are valued.

And yes, you will live all parts of venture capital:

    • Source: Identify and generate investment opportunities on behalf of the tech team. We receive a lot of referrals, but often our best opportunities come from entrepreneurs we know or proactive outreach to startups we recognize are doing something great.
    • Evaluate: Conduct sector and company due diligence in the form of customer interviews, market analysis and financial modeling. You will do a lot as we look at investments, but our best insights come from proactively learning about a sector ahead of the times we invest and we encourage associates to dive into their own pre-emptive research on areas of interest.
    • Support: Support entrepreneurs as they grow their companies. There will be many opportunities to dive in, get to know the teams and help our portfolio companies. Often it will be one-off projects, but we also create short, defined, full-time roles with portfolio companies when the fit is there.  Overtime, you will take on Board Observer roles at our portfolio companies
    • Reflect: Analyze our portfolio performance and help us reflect, learn and improve as investors.

What are you like? Our associates have strong analytical abilities and are intellectually curious. They are humble and collaborative – befitting the ethos of the fund – and possess well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, in addition to having a high degree of empathy for early-stage entrepreneurs and the risks they take. High IQ and EQ are critical.

We are sector specialists and strive to know our domains deeply. Associates should have a solid foundation in technology and business experience in management consulting, venture capital or operating companies/ start-ups.

What’s our team like? We are a team of seasoned operators and investors who are analytically-minded and thesis-driven. We love big markets and big ideas, but we also love nuanced insights from entrepreneurs who re-think conventions and find the white space in existing markets. We roll up our sleeves and engage while being collaborative and ultimately respectful of the founder’s position. Our team is approachable and consistently seen as thoughtful, domain experts. Though we are part of a large global brand that grants us an international perspective and community, we’re a tight-knit and hungry team.

What else do you need to know? The role is a minimum two-year commitment. We are open to this becoming a Partner-track position, but we generally support your transition into a portfolio company or to graduate school. F-Prime associates have a strong track record of admittance to the leading business schools in the country.

    • Bachelor’s Degree from a top-tier school with excellent performance, [Extra Credit] for computer science or engineering
    • 2-4 years of progressive work experience, ideally in management consulting, but possibly in an operating role, technology development or tech M&A / corporate development.
    • Passion for tech and startups and solid understanding of FinTech [Extra Credit] or enterprise software.
    • [Extra Credit] Active network in Boston or New York.
    • [Extra Credit] Early-stage start-up experience as Founder or early employee
    • Position is based in Boston.

  • Pillar VC

Head of Business Development, Pillar VC

    Pillar VC

One of the most critical ways to rapidly accelerate a startup’s pace of growth is through access to customers––people who can give you early feedback to help validate that you’re solving for real customer pain, people who can shape your product direction, and people who can help you center on the right go-to-market strategy. If you’re lucky, one day the same people may turn into your first customers. As our Head of Business Development, you’ll build strategic relationships with key business leaders, opening the door to prospective customers and advisors for our portfolio companies.

    Who We Are

Pillar is the first capital in for founders building the next-generation of pillar companies in Boston. We’re proud investors in companies like PillPackDesktop MetalAlgorandHometapKuebixAsimov, and Soofa.

We started Pillar with the belief that there has to be a better way for founders and investors to align. We began with a simple hypothesis — that if we treat founders the way we would want to be treated, that good things will happen. That if we align every incentive, every action and decision to realize mutual benefit, we will engender trust, and from that, achieve profound results. It’s that simple.

Our firm was co-founded by Jamie Goldstein, who spent 18 years at North Bridge Venture Partners, and 17 world-class CEOs and executives from top Boston companies like WayfairTripAdvisorDraftKings and Rapid7. All are investors in our firm, but are also owners, bringing their insight and experience to our portfolio companies as advisors, mentors, board members and customers. Goldstein is joined by Russ Wilcox (E Ink, Transatomic Power, Piper Therapeutics) and Sarah Hodges (Pluralsight, RunKeeper, Intelligent.ly) in managing the fund, and by team members, Parker McKee and Katie Mulligan. Collectively, we have over 50 years’ experience building and scaling companies.

    Who You Are

    • You have a diverse network. Each person on our team brings a unique set of relationships to our firm and our portfolio; together we’re stronger than we could ever be alone. You have a complementary network that helps us access, connect with and learn from an interesting new group of people.
    • You’re a connector. You enjoy meeting new people and building a community, but more importantly, thrive on putting people together who mutually benefit from shared skills, ideas, and perspectives.
    • You know how to get your foot in any door. Whether it’s the CEO of a public company, a sales leader at a multi-billion dollar SaaS business or an award-winning faculty member at a top tier university, you thrive on building relationships. You never hesitate to connect when you’re interested in meeting someone new, and are always considering how to create value for the person you want to meet.
    • You understand which connections are most valuable to a company.Perhaps you’ve worked in a company before in a sales or business development role, or maybe you’ve even led your own company. Either way, you know how to identify which introductions are the most high value at any point in time.
    • You have your eye on the long game. You know that the best way to build meaningful relationships with people is to give, not to ask. You’re always investing in helping the people around you; you do it without the intention of receiving anything in return, but you also realize you’re creating goodwill that will pay off long-term.
    • You’re an operational wiz. You thrive on creating systems to help you organize knowledge and relationships, helping to connect the dots between people and ideas.

    Your Responsibilities

    • Work closely with our investing team and our portfolio companies to understand opportunities to open doors to customers, partners, advisors, and mentors.
    • Collaborate with our portfolio companies to understand where they are in their growth, helping them think strategically about connections that could be valuable in the near and long-term. Become a go-to resource for our founders.
    • Connect with business leaders who can be valuable to our portfolio founders across all the areas in which we invest––enterprise SaaS, blockchain, synthetic biology, AI/ML, and more. Keep these relationships fresh by creating value for the broader Pillar community. Connect people with relevant experts, experiences and resources to provide useful insight. Connect the dots between these people, and watch the sparks fly.

    Pillar VC

Early-stage investing is all about people. What sounds like a promising idea on Day 0 could look totally different on Day 365. Startups are full of twists and turns; it’s all about finding a team of people who have the capacity to blow through walls and navigate change. As our Head of Ecosystem, you’ll help Pillar identify promising future-founders and senior leaders interested in building and joining the next generation of pillar companies in Boston.

    • You have “T” skills––depth and breadth. You have depth, perhaps and area in which you’ve helped to build a company as a product leader or former founder, or maybe because you’ve spent time as an investor digging into a space about which you’re passionate. You also have breadth; you thrive on learning about emerging technologies, and can easily come up to speed on new concepts.
    • You advocate for founders. You have empathy for entrepreneurs, perhaps because you’ve spent time building companies yourself.
